More Parking at Charlotte/Douglas
The Charlotte City Council approved spending $3 million from airport funds for the design of a 4,000-space parking deck on Wilkinson Boulevard between Harlee Avenue and Little Rock Road. The deck could cost between $50 million and $60 million and will be designed by LS3P Associates, which designed other decks at the airport, said Roy Johnson, an architect consultant for Charlotte/Douglas. The airport would issue bonds to pay for construction of the new deck and use airport revenues to pay off the debt.
The deck would be built on about 100 acres the airport set aside for future parking. Construction is expected to begin in November with completion around February 2009
