Catawba Interbasin Transfer
As it now stands, York County has joined several municipalities in appealing the proposed interbasin transfer that would gulp 10 million gallons a day from the Catawba River for the use for the citizens of Concord and Kannapolis. The N.C. environmental Management Commission approved the transfer on Jan 10. Under the proposed legislation, a 40 year cap and a 10 year review would be placed in water transfers. There is a requirement of economic impact statements on communities in the river basin.
