New CMC medical offices At Gold Hill Road and I-77

Carolinas Healthcare System, parent company of the Charlotte-based Carolinas Medical Center hospitals, is erecting a 40,000-square-foot, two-story medical office building at the corner of Gold Hill Road and I-77.

Two years ago, CHS was one of four companies that submitted proposals for a new York County hospital based in Fort Mill to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. DHEC is responsible for issuing certificates of need for hospital projects. The agency chose Piedmont Medical Center for the Fort Mill hospital, but CHS and Presbyterian Hospital appealed the decision. The appeal is scheduled to be heard by the S.C. Administrative Law Court sometime next summer. Medical offices and urgent care centers do not require a certificate of need, but do require DHEC signing off on the project.

The new building on Gold Hill Road will house an urgent care center, an OB/Gyn practice, a family practice and cardiology services. The new urgent care center will bring basic medical services closer to the growing population in the northern part of the township, which has been one of the fastest growing areas of Fort Mill in recent years.

Piedmont Medical Center already operates an urgent care center on Sutton Road in Baxter.

The new medical office expected to open next winter, possibly as early as December 2008.
