The Palisades is a 1,500-acre development located east of Lake Wylie and south of York Road (NC Highway 49). It eventually will include over 2000 homes, a golf course, an equestrian center, offices, and retail areas. The primary developer is Crescent Resources, Duke Energy's land development subsidiary, which is preparing the design for the northern portion that will contain the commercial center and mostly attached housing. Early phases of the development will focus on the southern section where the golf course, equestrian center, and most detached homes will be located. Robert C. Rhein Interests is managing construction of roads and other infrastructure. Residential lots became available to builders in the fourth quarter of 2003, and the first phase of the golf course is now open. All development is guided by the water quality plan, which property owners will be required to honor through covenants and restrictions. Duke Power built Lake Wylie in 1925, and most of the property along the lake shore was sold long ago.
The Palisades Town Center will combine a 48,000 square foot Harris Teeter Grocery Store, national and neighborhood retailers, a full service bank and sit down restaurants. Local offices such as medical and commercial services and an innovative live/work village in a proposed 'main street' setting will be included. Single family residences, townhomes, condominiums and apartment homes will be woven closely together with small parks, nature corridors, walking and biking trails and other amenities. Other proposed uses include a day care, fire station, health club and a shared elementary school/community park site.
While the amenities within The Palisades may fulfill almost all our residents’ needs, this unique community also boasts convenient access to a myriad of outside attractions, with multiple routes available. Easy access to I-485 means that downtown Charlotte, Carolinas Place Mall, the Ballantyne area, and The Charlotte Douglas International Airport are minutes away. And Lake Wylie, Paramount’s Carowinds, and the Arrowwood/Whitehall job centers are just a stone’s throw from the community.
